The Adored
Monday, June 25, 2007

"Once in a good while, a nouveau post-punk band materializes, all ready to restart the riot, giving us a shaking good time in the process. Southern California's updated answer to '70s Brit-punk bands like Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols or the Jam, The Adored got it right." --Urb

Jetboy
Wednesday, June 27, 2007

"When punk rock lost the plot and metal became a parody of itself; JETBOY was there (for those of us lucky enough to find them) to give us rock n roll fanatics something to get excited about. They looked cool, oozed with attitude and most importantly wrote great songs. "Together with their European counterparts, Hanoi Rocks, JETBOY represent one of rock history's biggest missing links. It's good to hear that they are back to finish what they started."

Jets Overhead
Tuesday-Wednesday, June 5-6, 2007

Since forming Jets Overhead in 2003, this five-piece from Victoria, Canada has mesmerized crowds at home and abroad with their hypnotic take on trance rock. Having shared the stage with The Dandy Warhols, Broken Social Scene, The Stills, Sam Roberts, Stars, Our Lady Peace, Tegan and Sara, Powderfinger and 54*40, the self-managed band took time out of their touring schedule to record their first full-length, Bridges. Bridges was released in Canada on Microgroove/Warner in April 2006, and reached a top 10 position on Canada's national college radio charts while also becoming a staple on emerging alternative outlets such as XM and Sirius satellite radio. The band recently received the prestigious national honor of a Juno nomination (Canadian Grammy equivalent) for best new group. With the growing story in Canada, Bridges has now been licensed for release in Japan (Columbia), and the UK and Europe (Sweet Nothing/Cargo).
A Fine Frenzy
Friday, June 8, 2007

A Fine Frenzy is the music of 22 year-old Alison Sudol. After teaching herself to play piano, Alison increasingly invested her internal narratives into song form. She found solace in the melodic melancholia of new global British bands Aqualung, Radiohead, Coldplay and Keane, etc... She was also moved by the diatonic minimalism of Philip Glass and the transportive allure of Icelandic music (Bjork, Sigur Ros.) Inspired, Alison developed the sound of A Fine Frenzy - hypnotic piano arrangements under classic American melody fused into irresistible, atmospheric songs with the power to reach around the world. As Selma Blair from Interview Magazine puts it, “her music is haunting.”
  Something For Rockets
Monday, June 4, 2007

Something For Rockets infuse hypnotic dance-floor beats with lush melody and poignant lyrics. Evocative, intelligent, and stylish, the result is a sound that is both vintage and future, dark and playful, and all anchored by the romantic sentiment of young and hopeless-self-distruction.

H.R.
Thursday, May 31, 2007

"H.R. ("Hunting Rod") is the stage nameof Paul D. Hudson, the lead singer of the influential hardcore punk band Bad Brains. H.R. would leave the band periodically and record solo albums. He experienced an extensive solo career, gaining a reputation as an impressive singer and dynamic performer, with numerous successful reggae albums.

A Village Voice review of a Bad Brains concert described him on stage "like James Brown gone berserk, with a hyperkinetic repertoire of spins, dives, back-flips, splits, and skanks."

  Nicovega
Monday, May 28, 2007

"Nico vega is a band on the run. Storming the Hollywood streets for over 2 years, they are building a rapid fan base and a voice "for the people." Word of mouth has brought them to the next level, along with their wicked live show and heavy song writing abilities. Aja the singer is a bit of a wild granola child, her voice is rich, and it cuts with familiarity. Rich, the guitar player from Toledo , has a dynamic, unlearned approach to guitar that stands well on its own, while Dan, the drummer from New York , is an inventive and powerful bedrock with his choices. The name Nico Vega represents a modern-day warrior saint, and the band wears the name well. Nico Vega is a cult, not a band - so drink the punch."
Armored Saint
Saturday, May 19, 2007

They are the only true original LA metal band from that fantastic period where metal exploded all over the world. They were truly born, bred, and raised together right here in El Lay. Through heaven and hell they are still creating incredible music! The true believers, and I consider myself among the many, know that this has always been an incredible live band.

  Alexa Ray Joel
Friday, May 11, 2007

"Alexa Ray Joel puts her genes to good use. The 20-year-old daughter of pop star Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley looks like a real girl, a nice girl, albeit a girl who in so many ways, for both better and worse, drew the daddy card in the genetic lottery. Diminutive in stature, pronounced in facial features, and a natural singer of songs, Joel is tiptoeing into the family business. Joel is a serious, ambitious performer, drawing on a lot of different styles to create their instantly familiar pop, which gives her first EP, Sketches, a lived-in feel; this is music that feels like it's been around a lot longer than Joel's 20 years, which does mean that she draws from familiar music, but she also does it well, writing tight, melodic, catchy songs that are as classically constructed as her father's without sounding much like his work "
